The Power of Less: Winning Before the Strike
What can European Kendoka learn from a small dojo in rural Japan that consistently produces strong competitors?
Most believe strong Kendō requires large dojo, elite training partners, and endless practice. Koryukan proves otherwise.
In Takamatsu, far from Japan’s major Kendō centres, Koryukan has built a reputation for developing strong Kendoka through efficiency, adaptability, and a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed.
In this seminar, Hikaru Iwabu will share the principles behind that success. Through seme, pressure, timing, and reading decisive moments, participants will learn how to create opportunities and seize control before the strike is made.

We'll try to keep the explanations short and on point, giving you more time for practical application of seminar contents.

While correct Kihon is emphasized at all times, Goken seminars focus on advanced themes and less commonly addressed topics rather than extended instructions on basic Suburi or footwork.
We we aim to recreate the dynamics of real encounters with an opponnent to simulate realistic conditions for the application of techniques, requiring Motodachi to fulfill an active role throughout the seminar.

Koryukan Takamatsu
Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 2000, he attended the famous Kendō powerhouse Mito Kiryo, one of Japan’s strongest high schools. While in school, he won both team and individual titles at the Kanto High School Championships and won the National High School Selection Tournament. After graduating from Mito Kiryo, he entered Kokushikan University, where he captured both the Kanto Student Championship and the All Japan Student Championship in the same season, a rare achievement establishing him as one of the most prominent university competitors in Japan.
